CEP Needs Analysis

What is a needs analysis?  I want to teach what my students want to learn.  For the most part, students in the A5 class  are ready to learn a certain set of language topics: subjunctive verbs, gerunds, etc.  However, it's helpful to know whether each students wants to focus on reading or speaking; whether they will primarily use English with friends or at work; or whether they are afraid to learn a new language or are ready to jump into things with abandon.  A needs analysis is a way for me to find out from my students what they are hoping to gain from the course.  In the summer of 2013, I used this to plan activities focusing on pronunciation, speaking fluency, and authentic reading - all areas that my students said they wanted to cover.

While the needs analysis I used was useful, below is a needs analysis that I designed for the next time I teach.  It has some of the best parts of the original needs analysis with new sections to improve on the earlier version.
